Playing the same old songs over and over on your iPod can get a little stale. And the radio's repetitious selection doesn't allow for the discovery of new songs either. A better way to get clued in on the latest tunes? The three playlist-building websites below, which give you creative—and free—ways to listen to music on your computer or to download it onto an MP3 player. Whether you're looking for a site with an enormous library, one that gives you music selections based on your mood or one that lets you check out fellow music lovers' personal playlists, here are three new ways to rock out.

Playlist.com
With 48 million users, Playlist.com is considered the world's largest online music community. When you become a member of the music-sharing site, you can browse the massive collection of tunes and listen to any song you want on your computer as well as build playlists of songs to enjoy and share with friends. Discover new music by connecting with other Playlist.com users to check out what songs they're listening to, or team up with friends online to build and share playlists together.

StereoMood.com
If you're not sure what music you're in the mood for or you just want a fun way to discover new tunes, check out StereoMood.com, which calls itself "emotional Internet radio." The site lets you select music playlists based on how you're feeling and what you're doing—options include "Relax," "Cooking Time" and "Energetic." Once you choose a category you'll get a long list of songs (often as many as 900) that fit. When you come across songs you like, you can add them to your personal music library to play again on your computer, or buy on Amazon.com or iTunes.

8Tracks.com
8Tracks.com is like having thousands of cool friends who give you great music recommendations. Choose what type of beats you're in the mood for—jazz, '80s or just plain "fun"––and you'll get a matching list of user-generated playlists. Some users provide bios of themselves and many give previews of some of the artists featured on each mix. If you find a mix you like, the site will show you the rest of the user's mixes so you can check them out as well. You can also comment on playlists and create your own to share. Want to upload new finds to your MP3 player? You also have the option of downloading the tracks from Amazon.com.
