Bulimia is a terrible and dangerous disease.

Recently in the media more and more such a thing as bulimia, it is not surprising, because the disease is gaining unprecedented speed every year. Thanks to modern ideals and foundations, the majority of the fair sex are sincerely convinced: in order to like men, and to be a successful woman, you must be thin.

And it’s good if such thoughts are supported only by healthy nutrition and sports, but, unfortunately, not everyone has such an ideal way of life, and as a result: frustration, frustration, depression and illness.

Bulimia is a type of possible mental disorder, a serious illness that causes painful and unnatural bouts of hunger.

Many have heard about the name and even know approximately what symptoms it is characterized by, but few know that bulimia is not just a lack of willpower or an unwillingness to control oneself. This is a real disease, deviation and dependence, akin to drug addiction, only the drug here is food.

This is the trouble of our time.

The name "bulimia" has Greek roots, which in translation into Russian mean "bullish hunger" - is very colorful for such a problem. The patient is tormented by uncontrollable, sharp and sharp attacks of agonizing hunger, at this moment all thoughts, desires and attention are given only to food.

At such moments, a person does not notice the amount of food eaten, he swallows everything he sees in front of him, often without even chewing, the main thing is to saturate an empty stomach as soon as possible.

After an acute sense of hunger is temporarily clogged with a huge number of foods, a person begins to rack his conscience, a feeling of disgust for himself and his weakness.

Shame for the deed and the fear to recover greatly from the huge amount of food eaten, makes the patient go to extreme measures: to completely get rid of everything that causes such feelings.

Most often this happens with the help of artificial methods of cleansing the stomach: vomiting attacks are caused, laxatives and diuretics are drunk, and some even start to exhausting sports loads and sit on regular strict diets.

When a person realizes that he has once again done wrong, he again begins to torment a sense of shame and aversion to himself, negative emotions again cause a hungry storm and everything repeats, as if in a closed circle.

You need to fight this

The danger also lies in the fact that it is not immediately possible to start the treatment of such a patient, because he carefully hides his problems, and for a seemingly long time it may look like a healthy person. The fact is that because of the fear of gaining extra pounds, the patient is trying by all means to maintain a normal weight, or to gain it, but very slowly and gradually.

Causes

The causes of this disease, most often, have psychological and physiological roots, and the latter are much less common. Physiological causes may be associated with other diseases of the alimentary tract, metabolic disorders, as well as damage to the nutritional center of the brain.

However, in most cases, bulimia has exactly psychological roots, on the basis of nervous disorders and all sorts of deviations.

Nervous bulimia, most often, develops in young women (from the age of 13), but now its symptoms are more and more common in the opposite sex.Experts noted that the symptoms of bulimia are often found in people who grew up and were raised in wealthy families.

You need to fight this

The high level of pretentiousness of such families is able to develop a certain level of complexes, the fears do not justify the hopes placed, to disgrace their family.

Risk factors that can affect the development of this disease are hotel professions where low body weight and certain body parameters are required, for example, modeling business, dancing, and sports with weight restrictions.

Also, bulimia often develops in those individuals who live in large cities, have a hereditary factor (someone from relatives or loved ones suffered from similar diseases), and also have excessive demands on themselves and their appearance.

It is believed that bulimia often goes hand in hand with anorexia, but this is not always the case, because such patients do not always become terribly thin, more often, on the contrary.

Even if the stomach is emptied almost immediately after a meal, most of the calories still have time to digest themselves in the body, moreover, patients with bulimia, in most cases, try in such cases to absorb the sweet and flour food, from which the body produces the most endorphins, and hence pleasure more.

The main symptoms of the disease

And yet you should not look for every attack of hunger, which was associated with a nervous breakdown, the symptoms of bulimia, in rare cases, this reaction of the body is fully justified. If the seizures became more frequent, you began to notice that they appear almost every day, and even 4-5 times a day, then this already indicates that there is no time to doubt, you should urgently consult a doctor.

The problem is that a sick person is practically unable to cope on his own, although he understands that he is doing something wrong, but, more often than not, the addiction is stronger than him, the vicious circle continues to repeat.

Terrible disease

At the initial stages, the patient becomes withdrawn and secretive, strange actions are observed, the mood can change dramatically, visits to the toilet increase, where attempts to get rid of what is eaten occur.

Over time, problems of a physical nature begin: the patient can dramatically gain and lose weight, complain of constant weakness and general malaise.

They also include: inflammations of the parotid salivary gland (the face acquires a swollen appearance), persistent intestinal disorders (due to an excess of laxatives and other drugs), general dehydration, and an imbalance of salts and minerals (due to frequent vomiting),violation of tooth enamel and persistent irritation and inflammation of the pharynx.

If you do not start treatment in time, the consequences of such a disease can be the most unpleasant, and sometimes even deplorable: the development of endocrine diseases, all kinds of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, gynecological disorders, death is possible.

How to help the patient?

If you notice similar signs and symptoms of someone from your loved ones, then it is urgent to start treatment, but how to get rid of this disease, because there are two whole factors mixed - psychological and physiological?

Treatment of bulimia is always based on solving the problem of its occurrence, in other words, you need to understand what caused the person to become depressed, and then “stick” it with such volumes.

Should not be doing that

In the treatment of bulimia nervosa, two types of therapy are always combined: correction of psychological disorders is performed, and a course of drug treatment is prescribed.

As we have already said, it is most likely that you will not be able to cope on your own, so you will have to find a good specialist, perhaps a psychiatrist, who can prescribe the necessary set of antidepressants, as well as select an individual psychiatric treatment.

Sometimes this is hypnosis, the specialist himself introduces the patient to this state and there deals with his problems, and sometimes the patient is taught the technique of self-hypnosis. Group treatment is very effective, when a person sees that he is not the only one who has encountered such a problem, it is much easier for him to overcome all the difficulties of the rehabilitation period.

Sometimes a family psychiatry complex is prescribed, it is especially relevant for persons younger than 18 years old: the entire course is directed at restoring and correcting family relationships that could affect the development of bulimia in a teenager.
