I had an old 500 watt halogen lamp in my garage. I used it to illuminate the bottom of the car from the inspection pit. Very handy good lantern with a handle and protective grille. But the trouble is: the halogen lamp burnt out. Of course, such lamps are commercially available to this day, but I decided to upgrade the lamp to make it more economical, brighter and more durable.
In the Chinese market, LED matrixes with built-in drivers right on the body of the matrix itself began to appear quite a long time ago. This driver is designed for alternating voltage of 220 V. If in a nutshell, it is just an LED that is powered directly from the mains voltage without additional boxes and accessories. And the main advantage is the low price -look at Ali Express. Purchase cost less than 150 rubles.I took a 50 W LED array and 220 V voltage, which I actually needed. The brightness of this LED is quite comparable to a 500W halogen lamp.
Converting a lamp into a LED
Unscrew the glass fastening screw, took out the glass with the rubber gasket. Plus, this luminaire is that it is airtight. And he began to think about how to replace a lamp with an LED. The idea came of its own.
Unscrew the screw for securing the Reflector Reflector. I remove it, it is made of thin aluminum, it bends very easily. Then unscrew the halogen llay mount. From the shoe, I detach the mains supply wires.
I will mount the LED on the back wall - it fits perfectly,and the housing of the spotlight will play the role of a radiator (it is made of duralumin), since the LED cannot be turned on without any heat sink. Although it has built-in protection against overheating, but we will not experience it.
I will not cut in the reflector, but screw it all together. To do this, it is necessary that the reflector sat close to the body of the back wall of the lamp. Therefore, we mold the aluminum reflector with pliers. Periodically we check everything to sit tight and well.
If everything sits well, take a screwdriver with a thin metal drill and drill four holes to fix the LED straight in place.
Then take a thermal paste and smear four surfaces: the back wall of the luminaire,rear and front of the reflector and the seat of the LED matrix.
Let's collect everything again and fix it with self-tapping screws. You can also use screws with nuts, but I personally took small screws. It's okay if they stick around a little bit from behind — I will fix this with a file later.
That's all, almost everything is ready for this. It remains only to solder the network wires to the matrix, put the sealing gum with glass and close the lamp.
Everything works fine.It seems to me that it began to shine even brighter than it was, but it heats up at times less precisely. The LED matrix is untied by voltage from the landing pad, and the network phase will not switch to the housing. But it is better not to forget to twist the ground wire to the body. I have used such a converted searchlight for more than a month. In principle, there are no flaws, some advantages. Especially savings in rubles for electricity per person.
