How to Play As Bastion in Overwatch
Of all the relics of the Omnic Crisis in Overwatch, none are quite so intriguing as the last Bastion unit. Once a weapon of war, Bastion is now a gentle, nature-loving AI, accompanied by his trusty bird-friend Ganymede. He still reverts to his combat mode in self-defense, however, and that makes him a dangerous opponent. If you want to know how to play as the last Bastion, scroll down to get started.
Take advantage of your Recon mode.Bastion is equipped to be fully mobile, and can fire a submachine gun attached to his right arm extension. Mow down your enemies before they can maneuver around you. Due to the recent update of the game, Bastion is now faster in this mode and has a more accurate range of fire.
Go into Sentry mode.By pressing the left bumper (or left shift on PC), Bastion will reconfigure into a solid turret. The key to success in this mode is positioning, try to pick a spot that the opposing team will not notice and make sure there is some cover to duck behind in case of emergency. Bastion has a lot of "Play of the Game" potential in this mode. His Gatling gun is substantially more powerful, capable of eliminating enemies in mere seconds. Reconfigure back into Recon mode by pressing the left bumper again. Due to the recent update, this mode is now considered a "tank buster". You can also go half a second faster when transforming into this mode.
Self-repair.Bastion's second ability is self repair, remembering to use it can mean the difference between success and failure. Bastion was designed to take a lot of hits, but taking too much fire can have disastrous results. Take cover and repair your damage by pressing and holding the right bumper. You can also now use this ability while moving, which used to not be a thing.
Go into Tank mode. After dealing a certain amount of damage, you will unlock your Ultimate ability. Press "Y/Triangle" (or q on PC) to temporarily go into Tank mode. In this mode, Bastion rolls around as a literal tank, launching explosive shells at enemies that can eliminate in practically one hit. Use this ability wisely as you only have a certain amount of time in this mode.
QuestionWhat do I do when Genji appears? And what do I do when someone calls me noob for playing Bastion?Top AnswererShoot him like any other player. If he activates his deflect ability, stop firing. If you are in Turret mode, switch to Recon mode and move back. Resume firing at him when his ability runs out. As for the second part, there is really nothing to do but ignore childish taunts like that. Mute the player if he persists. Thanks!
QuestionWhen using Bastion's ultimate, do I go for the supports or high DPS characters?Top AnswererIf you can, always take out the support first. At close range, one or two shots should take them out, and you can move on to the others. And if you manage to get behind them, flanking is always an excellent choice as the enemies will often be too preoccupied with what's ahead to notice you at first. Just make sure there aren't any stragglers behind that will cut off your sneak attack. Thanks!
QuestionWhat is the best mode for Bastion?Alpha ElectroCommunity AnswerIf your team is attacking, or you need to defend a payload on the move, Recon's Configuration is usually better. However, when defending a point or static payload, try to stay in Sentry Config to survive. (Occasionally move if you are in sentry form as the enemy will adapt to your location.)Thanks!
QuestionShould I play other characters besides Bastion?Top AnswererIt couldn't hurt to expand your playing ability. Remember, there are many other characters that you can choose from, and you may be proficient at several. Thanks!
QuestionWhat if Tracer comes along, and I can't help but stare?Top AnswererYou must consider Tracer as you do all enemies. From a large distance, use Turret mode, as you can easily recover your aim if she Blinks. At close range, stay in Recon mode and keep back. Thanks!

- Self Repair is now even more useful for tanking hits.
- Make use of Reinhardt's or Orisa's shield, but be ready to get moving just in case it goes down unexpectedly
- Bastion is an excellent character to start with as he is very easy to use and gives you a feel for the game.
- Bastion is very slow, and is often left open to attack from fast offense characters.
- D.Va eats your bullets.
- All abilities take a few seconds to recharge (except the ultimate ability you will have to charge it by dealing damage and eliminating enemies.
