Kloof Road House | Nico van der Meulen Architects
The request: a family-friendly home, ripe for indoor/outdoor entertainment, that maximises the north-facing views. The result: a 1100m² sculptural masterpiece designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects.
Located at the foot of a nature reserve in Bedfordview, South Africa, the Kloof Road House simultaneously embraces nature and modernism. Every room opens outdoors, inescapably linking the home to the landscaped garden, at the same time as boldly designed morphed steels wrap around the architectural frame.
Inside, the angular design and dark colour palette continues. Steel, glass and concrete are prominently used throughout the interior, with a few spots of natural timber and tactile fabrics to add warmth. Kloof Road House may have been designed as a family home, but we’d be happy to take it as a bachelor pad.
