New mirror from an old pan
The lifespan of some frying pans is quite limited: some fail in a year and a half of use. To get rid of what was received in the kitchen utensils, not everyone has a hand up. Do not rush to throw out pans that you no longer use - they can be used as an original frame for a mirror. An unusual mirror will decorate the interior, and if you have preserved several such pans, you can make a composition of them.
Preparation of materials
- An old pan of any size.
- A round mirror with a diameter slightly smaller than a pan.
- Primer Spray.
- Black paint in a can.
- Silicone in the gun.
- Angle grinder(Bulgarian).
The old frying pan will most likely have a very uneven surface. To make it smooth, use sandpaper. Especially pay attention to the places where the paint will be applied. If you paint on a rough surface, it will not smooth it, as you might think, but will emphasize roughness, which will worsen the appearance of the product.
First you need to separate the handle from the pan. To do this, put the pan on the floor and ask someone to step on it while you cut the handle with the grinder. If you have a griddle with a removable handle, you can skip this step. You will find two holes in the place of attachment. Measure the distance between these holes and make marks at the same distance from each other on the opposite edge of the pan. At the marked places, use a drill to make two more holes. At the same time it is necessary to secure the pan very well. It turned out only four holes: two on one side and two opposite.
Cut two pieces of wire (about 40 cm each). Pass one end through the first hole and on through the next, so that both ends are near the outside. The middle of the wire should be inside the griddle. To secure the wire, twist the ends into one spiral, it will be stronger and thicker. Do the same with the second piece of wire on the other side.
Measure the distance from the place where the griddle will be located to the fixing on the wall on which you plan to hang it. Make a loop from all four ends of the wire and fasten with one of them, tying it around. Cut the excess wire.
Apply primer to the pan and wire and allow to dry in accordance with the instructions on the package. The primer protects the surface from external influences, makes the result of painting more durable. Then cover the pan and wire with black paint from a can of twolayer. Black is the most universal, but you can choose your own if you have a good idea of how it will look in the interior. The inner part of the frying pan, where the mirror will be fixed, is not necessary to paint. Let the paint dry completely.
Glue the mirror
Apply silicone to the inside of the pan and to the mirror from the back. It is better not to use liquid nails, as in some cases they can damage the amalgam of mirrors. Silicone is moisture resistant and suitable, even if you decide to hang a mirror, for example in a bathroom. Place the mirror in the center of the frying pan and firmly press it. To completely dry, it takes about 4 hours. Done!
You can hang the original mirror where you like, or even give it to someone. Now you know what to do with old pans!
